FG, NLC Agree to Shift Ground

A meeting between representatives of the Federal Government and Labour leaders has ended at the presidential villa without a resolution. The meeting which started at 5pm Thursday lasted for over 5 hours as both parties failed to reach an accord over the reversal of the petroleum subsidy.
President Goodluck Jonathan called the meeting, which also included 5 governors and several ministers, after almost a week of talks with Labour had not yielded a solution. A source in the meeting revealed that Labour pushed for the reversal of the pump price to N65 a litre whilst the Federal Government refused to contemplate a figure lower than N120 a litre.
Tempers heated up at various points and the Labour delegation threatened to leave only to be placated by the Vice-President. The NLC also made demands about compensation and funeral costs for protesters who have died at the hands of the police.
The meeting has been adjourned for tomorrow as the nation braces itself for at least another day of strikes.
