Jamb agrees with Senate on conducting exam on week day
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said it has no problem with conducting its examination during the week.
Speaking at the on-going two-week International Association of Educational Assessment, IAEA, and Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA), scholarship training in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, said the body can conduct its exams on a week day to curb impersonation and touting, as long as the school centres are ready to give the exam body three days to conduct the examination.
“Any time we choose to conduct the examination is not a problem once the centres are available. The Senate is saying we should do the exam during the week and we don’t have problems. The challenge we foresee is if the schools will be in session.”
Meanwhile, Ojerinde said that the examination body has moved away from classical test theory to item response theory, describing the Item Response Theory as a model of examination that is centred on test items used for examinations and not the candidates.
He said that the body had to critically source alternative ways of making examinations comfortable for candidates, adding that the theory will help member-countries to discover if indeed it is the items used that are not good enough or the fault of candidates in not passing their exams.
