Navy probes killing of 3-week-old baby

Moses Joseph allegedly threw the infant into the lagoon
The Nigerian Navy has begun a probe into the alleged kidnap and killing of a three-week-old baby by Moses Joseph, a rating attached to the Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lagos.
Joseph fathered a baby by Glory Yusuf, a lady he was dating. Displeased with the birth, the naval rating stormed Miss Yusuf's apartment with some friends and colleagues, beat up the lady and her aged mother, before forcefully taking possession of the baby.
The baby was later thrown into the Lagos Lagoon from the Liverpool Street area in Apapa.
According to Lieutenant Commander Omodara, the Information Officer of the Command, a committee has been set up to investigate the matter. He said Joseph, if found culpable, would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
“For now, it is an allegation, but a committee has been set up to investigate the matter," he said, "The lady in question had been invited and she has made a statement.  She should be rest assured that the navy will not sweep the matter under the carpet.
“If the rating is found culpable at the end of the investigation, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken and thereafter, he will be handed over to the appropriate authority.”
