FCT issues 200,000 land titles in 6 Area Councils
Introduces e-payment in AGIS and reform of land unit department
The Minister of Federal Capital Terrritory (FCT), Bala Mohammed has revealed the ministry's scheme to issue 200,000 land titles in the Area Councils of Abaji, Kuje, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Mohammed make this known while addressing Governor Jonah Jang of Plataeu state, that the initiative was geared towards fast-tracking development and would enable allottees use title documents as collaterals for financial transactions among other benefits. Mohammed took up the land reform administration and allocation in FCT to rid the system of forgery and land frauds.
He disclosed that the administration through the Abuja Geographical Information Systems (AGIS) and Land Department is currently in the process of issuing proper Certificates of Occupancy to about 200,000 title holders within the six area councils of FCT. New measures of e-payment in AGIS and upgrading of land unit and AGIS to full-scale departments have been introduced.
Also speaking, Jang revealed plans to understudy the FCT model by sanitizing land administration and allocation particularly in Jos. He added that the technical team from the ministry of lands has been directed to commence study of the AGIS on land administration. Jang pointed out that the AGIS would make it possible for people to pay accurate rates for their lands and properties as well as facilitated excellent planning within FCT.
The governor commended the achievements of the FCT administration in various sectors, as Abuja is now the focus and centre of attraction of Nigeria and the international community following its fast pace of development, excellent infrastructure and good geographic planning as well as excellent works of AGIS and the entire land administration system of FCT.
Mohammed, explained that the AGIS information stock comprises of seismic, spatial and geographic data adding that they could be quite useful in the areas of security and demographic information. He also assured the governor of all necessary assistance disclosing that Kano and Niger are far gone in reforming their own land administration systems and Geographic Information System (GIS) after understudying AGIS.
