Three die of generator fumes inside well

Three men have died of generator fumes inside a dry well in Jahun, Bauchi State.
The tragedy occurred at the residence of one Bala Mohammed.
It was gathered that Mohammed, contracted his friend, Mohammed Gudum, to deepen the well and also clean it. Gudum, thereafter, asked his son, Salisu, to do the job.
Tragedy, however, struck when Salisu, who had finished digging and plastering the walls of the well, decided to take a generator inside the well.
It is not yet clear why he needed a generator inside the well. Neighbours said because there was no pipe to evacuate the fumes out of the well, Salisu passed out after inhaling the poisonous gas after a while.
His colleague, Yahaya Mohammed, who was assisting him to do the job, raised an alarm and went down to well to attempt to rescue Salisu. He too succumbed to the fumes and lost consciousness.
Residents of the area, Abdullahi Dajin and one Adamu, volunteered to go into the well to bring out the victims with the aid of a rope.
However, after successfully bringing out the dead bodies of the victims from the well, Dajin slipped while attempting to climb out of the well and fell, landing on Adamu. who died instantly. Abdullahi survived.
A medical doctor at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Labaran Dattijo, confirmed the trio dead and attributed their death to poisonous gas from generator fumes.
