NDLEA arrests 10, seizes 15.7kg hard drugs
Arrests and seizures were made at the Lagos Airport in January 2012
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) attached to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, in January 2012, arrested a total of ten suspected drug
traffickers.
The agency also seized illicit drugs weighing 15.730kg and worth N150 million, consisting of 8.900kg cocaine and 6.830kg of methamphetamine.
The ten persons apprehended include 9 males and a female.
The NDLEA Airport Commander, Hamza Umar, warned drug traffickers contemplating smuggling drugs through the airport to get ready for arrest
and prosecution.
“We have put in place measures to check mate the activities of drug traffickers at the airport. Those planning to smuggle drugs through the airport should prepare for arrests and prosecution because we shall get them,” Hamza warned.
Similarly, the Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmadu Giade, described the arrests and seizures as a good start and urged officers to remain vigilant and prevent drug traffickers from using the airport.
Giade also appealed to stakeholders to collaborate with the Agency in the campaign against drug trafficking and abuse.
“Collaboration in the drug war is important because illicit drugs are expensive and destructive. The more money available
to drug criminals through illicit drug transactions, the more insecure the society
becomes. Therefore every seizure is a right step towards incapacitating drug barons,” he said.
Members of the public with useful
information were encouraged to report the illicit activities of drug dealers in
their neighbourhood to the NDLEA.
