Seven die in Benue road accident
The Offia family were fleeing troubled Yobe State when the accident occurred
A ghastly road accident left a family of seven dead along Oturkpa express road, Benue State during the weekend.
The family was fleeing from the dreaded insurgents in their Damaturu abode, Yobe State when they were crushed to death by a trailer.
The deceased, Steven Offia, who hails from Awhum in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State died on the spot alongside his wife, four children and a house help.
The Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, expressed shock and sadness over the incident.
He made this known through his Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi Achife, during a condolence visit to the Offia family home at Awhum. He said tragedy would not have happened if not for the Boko Haram attacks and killings.
He lamented the continued killings of innocent Nigerians and disruption of activities due to the actions of the sect, adding that such pathetic stories as that of the perished family would continue to stire anger as well as agitate the minds of well meaning Nigerians.
The governor expressed hope that efforts were being put in place to halt the Islamist activities and restore peace and security to the country, while he was consoling the people of Awhum community and Enugu State in general.
He urged the people to always be vigilant and security conscious, that such disposition will help save lives and enhance the efforts of the government in curbing the menace.
